April Fools’ Day is here, and my Dobermann, who has a huge sense of humor, pulled one on me. He loves to figure out ways to get my attention, so ringing the doorbell was a good idea, he thought. And it was. It got me out the door and talking to him. His bottom teefies, which were apparently telling me he didn’t understand where I was coming from, were comical.
Training a dog or puppy humanely, with food and positive motivation, will create a companion dog who isn’t afraid of being punished; and will therefore, offer behaviors for food or attention. The more you train your dog or puppy to do, such as tricks like waving bye-bye, the more he will use them; not only when you ask for them, but maybe when he has a hankering for a snack!
Keep your eyes and ears opened today and any day to see if your dog is vying for attention or a food reward by doing a behavior you trained with him, or one he invented himself!
