Baking Training Food From Canned Prescription Dog Food

I am training an adorable pooch who has a propensity to form struvite crystals. According to his veterinarian, the only food the dog is allowed to eat is corporately made canned or kibble prescription diets. In order to train this fellow humanely, I needed food that I can pass to him and that he can eat on the go. So I baked training food from the contents of the canned dog food as is shown in the following video.

Basically, the recipe is
1. Pull out the contents of one can of prescription food and flatten it onto a baking pan lined with parchment paper till it’s 12″ x 7″.
2. Cut it into bite-squares according to the dog’s size.
3. Bake it for 25-30 minutes in a 350 degree oven.
4. Take it out. Let it cool, and break apart the pieces.
5. Refrigerate up to a week, or freeze and defrost as needed.

Additional info on what-ifs is in the video.

And with that food, I was able to train this cutie patootie to ring the doorbell, which will help him notify his owner when he needs extra elimination breaks outdoors. In other word, “Open the door, mom! I need to go potty!”

Send your pups to train with me.
