How To Protect Your Holiday Plants From Your Pet Dog

Instead of getting a pointsettia for the holidays, a red hibiscus bush is a great substitute. Unlike pointsettias, which are poisonous to dogs, hibiscus flowers are edible. Both humans and dogs eat hibiscus flowers.

My dogs pull hibiscus flowers off my trees and bushes even before the day is done, so I’m lucky if I get to see the flower for much of the day. So when I purchased this year’s holiday hibiscus plant, I managed my dogs behavior, with a barrier.

Make sure the barrier is tall enough so that your dog can’t reach over top to reach the plant.
