Dogs deserve to play. Each dog or puppy I board and train has a different interest. Pups and dogs like to fetch, dig, chase, be chased, hunt, bury, tug, hoard, chew, bark, find, shred, and combinations of all of these and more. One of my dogs likes to squeak toys. The squeaking sound emulates the sound of prey when it’s been caught. I don’t know if that’s what’s turning him on because he oftentimes watches the rabbits dart through our yard while my other pooch does the chasing. Then he’s more apt to chase after her. He has a lot of interests, but so do most dogs.
When we find our dogs’ talents, it’s a great thing to let them express them. For instance, if you loved to sing, you’d want to express that love by singing. If you were reprimanded whenever you tried to sing, you’d be a sad individual. Dogs have the same feelings. They can’t figure out why da mama or papa is yelling at him because he’s digging a hole when digging is the love of his life. But you can work with that behavior, so both you and the dog are happy. There is always compromise.
Here is my dog demonstrating one of his joys. If the noise bothered me, I’d get a less loud squeaky toy, or hey, there’s always ear plugs! But he is having a blast and doing nothing else but jaw-ercise. I love that he’s happy.
