I’ve trained my own dogs to help around the house. They go into big dog crates and retrieve whatever I can’t reach. When a dog bowl, Kong, or other object is far in the back, the only way I could reach the item is by crawling in myself. Getting help from one of my dogs really saves my back and knees! And they are eager to do the job for a little tuna fudge.
Or perhaps you want your dog or puppy to fetch a ball, or retrieve the newspaper? Either to your hand or to drop at your feet? Or maybe you want your dog to put the retrieved item on or in an object such as in a trash can, toy box, or ball-throwing machine? You may have another reason for wanting your dog to retrieve. There are lots of them. Do you have a hunting dog that needs to learn to retrieve your game? Or a prospect for obedience competition who needs to learn to fetch a dumbbell? Or you only want help around the house?
Outsmarting Dogs motivates dogs to fetch via humane training methods derived from behavioral science. These methods are proven time and time again no matter if a dog is fetching a dumbbell or retrieving your morning slippers. While learning a consistent retrieve, the dog has fun and so does the trainer. Then so does the dog’s owner because we teach you how to maintain the training. Our dogs retrieve with wagging tails, which translates to a dog that’s learning while having fun. There is never any ear pinching, shocking, or pain involved. We do our retrieve training the same way we do all our training, with lots of encouragement, good training food, praise, and goals the dog can reach in each training session, so they gain confidence as they progress.

Some of our board-and-train clients learn to retrieve while in the Outsmarting Dogs training program. We teach the retrieve for many reasons. Here is a short compilation for some of the reasons dogs learn to fetch to hand or fetch to another object. outsmartingdogs.com
